Directly at the border between Baden-Wurttemberg and Bavaria, the Danube flows into the region of Ulm/Neu-Ulm. Surrounded by the forests and hills of the Swabian Albs, famous for its caves, churches, crystal clear springs and villages, the region offers a lot of sights to see and a lot of things to do.

A visitor to Ulm/Neu-Ulm has a unique opportunity to explore real knight residences, built in Middle Ages. Summer houses of the patricians living in the Renaissance and Baroque times, could also be an excursion to the past. However, for the ones interested in architecture and culture, the monasteries and churches of Ulm/Neu-Ulm are the sights that overshadow everything: Gothic Ulm Minster with the highest spire in the world, the Benedictine in Wiblingen, monasteries in Obermarchtal and Roggenburg, as well as the 20th century expressionistic church in Neu-Ulm, are the region's highlights in every sense of the word.

Not far from the cities Ulm and Neu-Ulm, in the Swabian Alb, there are a number of caves, some of which are open to the public. In these caves, the archeologists found legendaryLöwenmensch (lion headedivory sculpture) and the "Venus", both aproximately 40 thousand years old, and among the oldest art pieces in the world. The "Venus" is still being researched, while the lionheaded figurine can be seen in the Ulmer museum in Ulm.

There is a possibility of hiking along the Danube, through the forests and valleys, and, at the same time, visiting the caves, monasteries and castles. Tourist operators of Ulm/Neu-Ulm offer a wide range of tours.

In Ulm/Neu-Ulm one can also eat in local restaurant, visit a unique "Museum of Bread Culture", or just stroll along the streets. Whateverthe choice, the atmosphere of the towns lying on the Danube and thebeauty of their neighbourhood are beyond description- belonging maybe to fairytales or, even more appropriately, knight legends.
